When Kusamono is being placed as a companion to a bonsai, it's being called Shitakusa.
To be specific, Young Choe, a thought leader in the art of Kusamono explains:
"There’s some debate and confusion as to the proper names for bonsai accent plantings. When used as a bonsai accent, this is called shitakusa; these designs are subtler, reflecting seasonality or the wildness of the tree’s origin. When displayed alone, the plants are taller, bolder, entire compositions in themselves—this is kusamono."

A young Callicarpa can hardly be called bonsai after just 3 years, so I call this a kusamono until further notice.
